Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

This fragmentary text, of difficult classification, seems to list sacred springs and their offerings. The text specifies the relative position of these springs (QERUB “in the nearby of,” lines 2′, 6′, 13′), cf. for this feature the “cadastral” tablet KBo 62.5 discussed by Lorenz and Rieken 2007. Both the coarse clay of the tablet and the handwriting are similar to IBoT 2.131. Note, besides several spring goddesses, the mention of two ḫekur-buildings (5′, 11′) and of the “gate of the Sun deity” (13′-14′).

5′: The ḫekur ḫappinaš(ša) is not attested elsewhere. For this and other appellatives of ḫekur-buildings, see HW2 Ḫ 556-58.

10′: A DN is expected at the beginning of the line. The gap seems to be too narrow for accommodating a determinative like DINGIR or PÚ. On the other side, photo-collation does not support a reading [U]L instead of BI.
